There are a 1,001 different ways to design a
website. And for every one person who designs a website, there are
a thousand other people who will say there is something wrong with it.
I'm a great believer in KISS - Keep It
Simple Stupid.
None of my websites will ever win any awards for graphic design. They
are designed to be seen at the top of the search engines, get the
click through and make the sale.
I've only ever made simple websites using FrontPage, like the
website you are reading right now, the demo website below and
those on the right side of this page. None of
the websites that I have created have ever had millions of visitors,
but then again you wouldn't expect them to have that many. My simple
sites have sold fairly obscure products, some of them very
successfully.
Any beginner can produce similar websites
using
FrontPage and achieve similar results. There are
cheap books available from
Amazon and ebooks
available over the internet will will show you how to construct your
new website technically.
If you examine the demo website
RemoteRadioControlledCars.com you'll see the home page (index.html) has
links to all the main important sales pages, with the search
keyword in the blue text links.
All the text is size 3 Aerial, for body
text as in this paragraph, or size 2 as it is on the home page of the
demo site, headings are larger, black on a
white background. Nobody has ever left one of my websites because they
couldn't read it.
All the images are made with the smallest
file size possible so they load up quickly. Make sure they are
good quality.
1. Place
your country's flag on every page so people can immediately see
where you are located
2. .Put your photo on every page,
along with a link to your address and email.. Encourage visitors to
phone you and send emails. This all inspires confidence in you, your
business and your products.
If you look at some of the most successful
websites such as Google and Paypal you will notice they use black
text and standard blue links on a white background. I don't know what
software they use, but their websites are so simple that they could
have used FrontPage to create them.
